Glenfield Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, with land used mainly for farming. The first subdivisions were made in 1881. By 1911, the town of Glenfield had 170 people living in 36 homes. It was not until the post-war era that the paddocks around the town were subdivided for housing. Significant development occurred during the 1950s and 1960s, with more rapid growth during the 1970s. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then increased between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area. Growth is expected to continue, particularly from the Ingleburn Gardens estate in Bardia and the Panorama and Glenfield Chase estates in Glenfield.
Major features of the area include Bunbury Curran Park, Blinman Park, Glenfield Park, Kennett Park, Seddon Park, Macquarie Field House, the Georges River, Bunbury Curran Creek, Hurlstone Agricultural High School and a number of other schools.
