Ingleside Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from 1829 when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for farming. Some growth took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s, following the subdivision of land into residential and farm blocks. Many new settlers arrived, especially from the former Yugoslavia, establishing market gardens. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years. Some development took place during the 1980s in the south-eastern section when land was subdivided for industrial, commercial and townhouse development. Most of the area was zoned as rural until 1991, when subdivision was allowed. The population has increased substantially since the early 1990s, particularly between 2001 and 2011, a result of large numbers of new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include Garigal National Park, Narrabeen Head Aquatic Reserve, Warriewood Square Shopping Centre, Ingleside Scout Camp, Camp Kedron, Baha’i House of Worship, NSW Rural Fire Service District Training Centre, Monash Country Club, Pittwater Golf Centre, Sydney Conference & Training Centre, Ted Blackwood Community Centre, Nelson Heather Centre, Turimetta Beach, Warriewood Beach, Narrabeen Head, Turimetta Head, Katandra Bushland Sanctuary, Boondah Reserve, Ingleside Chase Reserve, North Narrabeen Reserve, Pittwater Rugby Park, Warriewood Escarpment, Warriewood Wetlands Reserve, Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre, Galstaun College and Mater Maria Catholic College.
