Middle Dural Name Origin
Middle Dural is named from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘burning logs’ or ‘a hollow tree on fire at the bottom and smoking at the top’.
Middle Dural Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from 1817 when timber-cutters moved into the area. Population was minimal until the 1880s. The most significant development occurred in the post-war period. The population increased slightly during the early 1990s, declined slightly between 1996 and 2006, and then increased slightly again between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.
