Abbotsbury Name Origin

Abbotsbury is named after an original property in the area, which was named after the landholder Major Edward Abbott.

Abbotsbury Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from 1806, when the first land grant was made. Population was minimal until the late 1800s when land was subdivided. Significant development did not occur until the post-war years, with rapid growth from the 1980s. The population continued to increase between 1991 and 2006 as new dwellings were added to the area. The population was relatively stable between 2006 and 2011, a result of few new dwellings being added and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.

Abbotsbury Features

Major features of the area include Western Sydney Parklands (including Knoll Lookout, Pimelea Picnic Area, Plough and Harrow Park, The Dairy and Visitor Centre), Calmsley Hill City Farm, Abbotsbury Shopping Centre, Bancroft Road Reserve, Heyson Street Park and Stockdale Crescent Reserve.
