Annandale Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from 1793 when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for cattle and sheep grazing. Population was minimal until 1876 when land was subdivided. Residential and industrial growth took place during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Expansion continued during the post-war years. Redevelopment took place from the 1960s, with the relocation of manufacturing out of the area and the conversion of many former industrial sites into housing. The population generally increased slightly from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.
Major features of the area include Sydney TAFE - Petersham College (Annandale Campus), Annandale Village (shopping centre), Cahill Street Playground, Cohen Park, Hinsby Park, Hogan Park, Smith Park, Spindlers Park, Whites Creek Valley Park, Annandale Community Centre, Annandale Galleries and three schools.
