Bass Hill Name Origin

Bass Hill is named after George Bass, a surgeon, explorer and original land holder. It was originally known as Irish Town, then Upper Bankstown.

Bass Hill Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from 1798 when the first land grant was made. Expansion took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Significant development did not occur until the post-war years, when the area attracted large numbers of returned soldiers and migrants. The population increased gradually from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area, particularly medium density housing.
