Boronia Park Name Origin

The park was named after the Boronia ledifolia which is all but locally extinct, probably due to the introduction of rabbits in the 19th century.

Boronia Park Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the 1790s when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for farming. Population was minimal until the 1840s and 1850s, following land subdivision. Growth took place during the late 1800s and early 1900s, spurred by the construction of the first bridge over the Parramatta River in 1881. Significant development occurred in the post-war years, with many apartment buildings built from the 1960s. The population increased slightly between 1996 and 2011, a result of some new dwellings being added to the area, particularly medium and high density housing.

Boronia Park Features

Major features of the area include Gladesville Shopping Village, Banjo Paterson Park, Bill Mitchell Park, Bremner Park, Field of Mars Reserve, Glades Bay Park, Looking Glass Bay Park, Monash Park, Peel Park, Westminster Park, Gladesville Sporties and two schools.
