Breakfast Point Name Origin

Breakfast Point is thought to be named in honour of the first point of contact between Europeans and Aborigines on the land, during breakfast.

Breakfast Point Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s, with land used mainly for farming. Many industries were established in the early 1900s, with the area remaining industrial until the post-war years. Population was minimal until after 2001, when rapid growth took place as large numbers of new dwellings were added to the area, particularly from high and medium density housing on the former AGL gasworks site. Growth is expected to continue, particularly in Breakfast Point.

Breakfast Point Features

Major features of the area include Silkstone Park, Tom Murphy Reserve, Village Green, Wangal Centenary Bushland Reserve, Waterfront Park, Mortlake-Putney Vehicular Ferry and Mortlake Point.
