Bronte Name Origin

Bronte is named after an early property in the area, which was named after a town in Sicily. It was originally known as Nelson Bay.

Bronte Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, when the first land grants were made. Population was minimal until the late 1800s, with growth from the 1880s into the early 1900s. Expansion continued during the immediate post-war years. The population and dwelling stock declined slightly between 1996 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011.
