Canley Vale Name Origin

Canley Vale is named after "Canley Grange" in England, with Vale meaning "valley or dale".

Canley Vale Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s, with land used mainly for timber-getting and farming. Population was minimal until the mid 1800s, spurred by the opening of the railway line in 1856. Growth took place during the late 1800s, with further expansion during the interwar period. The most significant development occurred from the post-war years, with rapid growth during the 1950s and 1960s. The population declined slightly between 1996 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.
