Caringbah South Name Origin

Caringbah South is named for the area south of Caringbah, which is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "pademelon wallaby".

Caringbah South Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s when crown land was released. Early land uses included poultry farming, fruit growing and market gardening. Residential development took place from the late 1930s, becoming significant from the 1950s. The population generally increased from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area, with the most substantial growth between 1991 and 1996.

Major features of the area include EG Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens, Beauford Avenue Reserve, Fernleigh Reserve, John Dwyer Park, Kareena Park, Robin Place Reserve, Wattlebird Bushland Reserve, Willarong Point Reserve, Burraneer Bay Marina, Willarong Point and a number of schools.
