Cheltenham Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s. Growth was minimal until the 1880s, following the opening of the railway line. Subdivision took place in the 1890s, with land used for housing and orchards. Significant development occurred during the post-war period. The population increased marginally during the 1990s, and then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2011, a result of little change in dwelling stock.
Major features of the area include Beecroft Place Market, Pennant Hills Golf Club, Beecroft Railway Station Gardens, Booth Park, Cheltenham Park, Chilworth Recreation Reserve, Fearnley Park, Gunbalanya Park, Lyndon Way Reserve, Lyne Road Reserve, The Village Green, the Beecroft and Cheltenham railway stations and several schools.
