Como Name Origin
Como is named after Lake Como in Italy.
Como Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s. Population was minimal until the 1880s when the railway was constructed, with Como becoming a large shanty town for many of the railway workers and their families. Once the railway was built Como became more of a holiday centre, and continues to be known today as a recreational area for boating and fishing. Significant development occurred from the 1950s. The population and dwelling stock increased slightly from the early 1990s.
