Dulwich Hill Name Origin

Dulwich Hill is named after a London suburb. It was previously known as Wardell's Bush and Wardell Hill.

Dulwich Hill Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from 1794 when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for market gardening and orcharding. Population was minimal until the 1880s, with growth through to the 1930s, aided by the opening of the railway station in 1895 and land subdivision. Many units and apartments were built from the 1960s. The population declined marginally between 1991 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.
