East Lindfield Name Origin
East Lindfield is named for the area east of Lindfield, which is named after a village in Sussex, England.
East Lindfield Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates primarily from 1888 when land was subdivided. Land sales were largely unsuccessful and were promoted again in 1893. Land was used mainly for farms, orchards and market gardens until further subdivision occurred between 1915 and 1920. Growth was slow until the 1940s. Significant development occurred in the 1950s and 1960s, following a release of crown land in 1954. The population fluctuated slightly between 1991 and 2011, a result of small changes in dwelling stock and dwelling occupancy rates.
East Lindfield Features
Major features of the area include Garigal National Park, East Lindfield Park, Lindfield Oval, Lindfield Soldiers Memorial Park, Moores Creek Reserve, Wellington Road Oval and one school.
