Epping Name Origin
Epping is named after Epping Forest in England.
Epping Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the 1790s when the first land grants were made, with land used mainly for timber-getting, farming and orcharding. Population was minimal until the 1880s, aided by the opening of the railway line. Growth continued during the early 1900s. The most significant development occurred in the post-war period, particularly during the 1960s. The population increased gradually from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area, particularly medium and high density housing.
Epping Features
Major features of the area include the Epping Town Centre, the Epping railway station, Epping Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Edna Hunt Sanctuary, Basil Cook Reserve, Boronia Park, David Scott Reserve, Dence Park, Don Stewart Park, Duncan Park, Eileen Mahoney Reserve, Forest Park, Kim Rutherford Reserve, Loftus Square Park, Maida Park, Mobbs Lane Reserve, Pembroke Street Park, Vimiera Park, West Epping Park and a number of schools.
