Forest Lodge Name Origin
Forest Lodge is named after a former estate in the area.
Forest Lodge Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from 1789 when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for timber cutting and fishing. Land was surveyed in 1790 and 400 acres were set aside for the Church of England. Most of this land remained in church ownership until 1974, when it was subdivided. Significant residential and industrial development took place from the 1840s to the 1860s. By the 1880s the area was characterised by mansions, terrace houses and worker’s cottages. The Government acquired Glebe Estate in 1974 as a major urban renewal project. The population increased slightly between 2001 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area. Growth is expected in the future, particularly from the residential development on the former Harold Park Paceway site.
