Granville Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s. Population was minimal until the 1860s, with land used mainly for orcharding. Residential growth took place from the 1880s into the early 1900s, accompanied by industrial growth. The most significant development occurred during the post-war years, including the establishment of public housing estates. The population generally increased between 1991 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area, particularly medium density housing.
Major features of the area include part of Granville Shopping Centre, TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute (Granville College), Bennalong Park, Duck River Reserve, Granville Memorial Park, Illoura Reserve, Roy Godfrey Reserve, Scout Memorial Park, Soldiers Memorial Park, Granville Swimming Centre, Granville Town Hall, Granville Youth & Community Recreation Centre and several schools.
