Guildford Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the late 1830s. Population was minimal until the late 1800s and early 1900s, aided by the opening of the railway line in 1876. The most significant development occurred during the post-war years, particularly from the 1950s to the 1970s. The population and dwelling stock declined slightly during the 1990s. The population then increased between 2001 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area, particularly medium and high density housing.
Major features of the area include Woodville Golf Course, Holroyd Private Hospital, Linnwood House, Guildford Shopping Centre, Guildford Swim Centre, Guildford Leagues Club, Campbell Hill Pioneer Reserve, Bright Park, Elizabeth Park, Fairfield Road Park, Frederick Newby Reserve, Guildford Park, Maurice O’Connell Reserve, McCredie Park, Victor Brazier Park, Wolseley Street Reserve and several schools.
