Haberfield Name Origin

Haberfield is thought to be named after Lord Haberfield, Major of Bristol in the early 1800s.

Haberfield Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from 1803, with land used mainly for farms and orchards. A garden suburb was established in 1901, with growth through to the 1920s. Expansion continued during the late 1940s. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then was relatively stable between 2006 and 2011, a result of little change in dwelling stock.

Haberfield Features

Major features of the area include Yasmar Training Facility, Algie Park, Robson Park, Reg Coady Reserve, Richard Murden Reserve, Wadim Bill Jegorow Reserve, Federation Place, the Haberfield heritage conservation area and several schools.
