Homebush Name Origin
Homebush is named after an early property in the area ‘Home Bush'. It was previously known as Liberty Plains.
Homebush Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1790s when the first land grants were made. Population was minimal until the mid 1800s, when the Sydney to Parramatta railway line was opened, with a station at Homebush. Growth took place from the late 1870s into the 1890s as land was subdivided. Expansion continued during the 1920s and the post-war years. The population was relatively stable during the 1990s. The population increased substantially between 2001 and 2006, with growth continuing between 2006 and 2011, but at a slower rate. Recent growth is a result of a large number of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly high and medium density housing.
Homebush Features
Major features of the area include part of Sydney's Paddy's Markets, Direct Factory Outlets Homebush, Airey Park, Mason Park, Bill Boyce Reserve, Bressington Park, Fitzgerald Park, Melville Reserve, Wentworth Reserve, Homebush Village Shopping Centre and two schools.
