Maianbar Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the 1820s, although little development took place in the 1800s, partly due to the establishment of the National Park in 1879. Maianbar was subdivided in the late 1920s, spurring growth in the 1930s. Significant development occurred in the post-war years, when many holiday homes and permanent houses were built. Since the 1990s swampy wetland areas in Bundeena were reclaimed to provide the Community Centre, oval, skate board facility and tennis courts. The population increased slightly during the 1990s, and then declined slightly between 2001 and 2006, a result of stability in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling. The population was relatively stable between 2006 and 2011.
