Padstow Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for timber-getting and farming. Significant development did not occur until the late 1920s, spurred by the construction of the railway line. Rapid growth took place in the immediate post-war years, including public housing construction. The population increased slightly from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.
Major features of the area include Georges River National Park, TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute (Padstow College), Padstow Shopping Centre, Padstow Park, Playford Park, Beauty Point Reserve, Churchill Reserve, Clarke Reserve, Cutting Reserve, Fox Reserve, Jean Peacock Memorial Reserve, Little Salt Pan Reserve, Neville Clasper Reserve, Redgum Reserve, Richardson Reserve, Roma Reserve, Rorie Reserve, Salt Pan Creek Reserve, Starr Reserve, Stuart Reserve, Thorpe Park, Villiers Reserve, Riverside Walkway, the Padstow railway station and several schools.
