Picnic Point Name Origin
Picnic Point was named to describe the geographic feature on the Georges River, which was popular with picnickers.
Picnic Point Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming and orchards. Significant development did not occur until after the 1930s, beginning as a southerly residential extension to the Panania and Revesby areas. Due to its isolation from the railway, development in this area was slower than areas to the north. Rapid growth took place in the post-war years. The population increased slightly from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
