Potts Hill Name Origin
Potts Hill is named for Joseph Hyde Potts, an accountant in the Bank of New South Wales, who received a grant of 1,100 acres (4 km2) in 1833. He originally called his property Hyde Park and had increased his holdings to 2,564 acres (10 km2) by 1835.
Potts Hill Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, although growth was minimal until the late 1800s. Significant development did not occur until the 1920s, spurred by the construction of the railway line. Expansion continued in the post-war years. The population increased slightly from the mid 1990s.
