Pymble Name Origin
Pymble is named after Robert Pymble, an early settler.
Pymble Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from 1823 when the first land grant was made. Land was used mainly for timber-getting and saw-milling, with some farms and orchards established from the 1840s. Significant development did not occur until 1890, following the establishment of a bus service and the opening of the railway line. Some growth took place between 1910 and 1930, following re-subdivision. Significant development occurred in the post-war years, especially during the 1950s. Growth slowed from the 1970s, with two small subdivisions in 1980 and some medium density housing constructed. The population and dwelling stock were relatively stable between 1991 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011.
