South Turramurra Name Origin
South Turramurra is named for the area south of Turramurra, which is named from an Aboriginal word meaning 'high or big hill'.
South Turramurra Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates primarily from 1885 when land was first subdivided and used mainly for farming. Population was minimal, due to limited access and difficult terrain. Some growth occurred in the 1920s, when many market gardens were established. Until 1958 the area was still mainly rural. Significant residential development took place during the late 1950s and 1960s. The population and dwelling stock were relatively stable from the mid 1990s.
South Turramurra Features
Major features of the area include Bradley Reserve, Canoon Recreation Area, Kissing Park, Sir David Martin Reserve and one school.
