Telopea Name Origin
Name. Telopea is named from Telopea speciosissima, the New South Wales waratah, a plant that was abundant in the area before it was colonised and which became the floral emblem of New South Wales.
Telopea Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s, with land used mainly for farming. Population was minimal until the 1850s, with growth continuing into the late 1800s. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s. The population and dwelling stock generally declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then increased between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.
