Winston Hills Name Origin

Winston Hills is named after Britain's wartime Prime Minister, Winston Churchill.

Winston Hills Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from 1794 when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for orcharding. Population was minimal until the 1860s. Some growth took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s, aided by improvements in transport. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006 as few new dwellings were added to the area and the average number of persons living in each dwelling declined. The population then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011, largely due to an increase in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
